Cardiology offers a unique mix of diagnosis, investigation and treatment of patients with cardiovascular medical problems. There are a wide range of options for further specialisation ranging from treatment using invasive procedures, diagnostics with advanced imaging and the management of cardiomyopathies, heart failure and patients with congenital heart disease.
The cardiology programme within UCLPartners offers the full range of opportunities for training in cardiology and all of the current subspecialties.
We have also achieved some of the highest rankings in the UK for Cardiology on the GMC Annual Trainee Survey for some posts.
We offer a varied and flexible programme adapted around the needs of each trainee. At a regional level we are looking forward to the formation of the Barts Heart Centre in 2015 which will house the majority of our tertiary services which will further enhance the quality of our training programme.

Training at UCLPartners (A trainee representatives perspective)
Cardiology training at UCLPartners offers a great opportunity to prepare for a successful career in Cardiology.
The UCLPartners rotation comprises a number of high volume centres, both district general hospitals and tertiary units, where you will be able to develop your clinical and practical skills in a well supported environment. You will benefit from the creation of the Barts Heart Centre which will be the largest specialist cardiovascular centre in the country. It will also be the world’s biggest centre of excellence for adults with congenital heart disease, and the new centre will perform more cardiac MRI and CT scans than any other centre in the world.
You will also benefit from the first class academic activity carried out across UCLPartners. This ranges from basic science/laboratory work all the way through to involvement in multicentre randomised trials. There often is the opportunity to undertake an MD/PhD and the training programme directors are very supportive in this regard.
Overall UCLPartners offers an extremely well-rounded and comprehensive general cardiology training programme, with the opportunity to develop subspecialty interests in centres at the forefront of the specialty.
